Apoyando

Category: technique

Also known as: Rest Stroke

Apoyando is commonly used to produce a stronger, projecting tone for melody lines.

The plucking finger follows through and rests on the adjacent string after sounding the note.

Players often use apoyando for:

  • principal melodic lines
  • accented notes in lyrical passages
  • scale work when focused on projection and tone weight
